1940s Hellerkunst ☆ Sleeping Dwarf with Nightingale and Blooming Branch

This wood picture belongs to a Hellerkunst series of dwarfs and bird. The name of the bird is depicted in the scene – we have the “night” (shown in the sleeping dwarf) and “gale” which seems to mean “singing” in Middle English (like Geoffrey Chaucer) or Old English. The translation is no problem here, because the German word Nachtigall also means “night singer”. 😃
