INFO Kurt Süß / Meissen und DDR / Vor der Enteignung: Für die Kunstgewerbe Manufaktur von Kurt Süß gab es zwei Phasen, und zwar vor und nach der Enteignung im letzten Jahrhundert durch die DDR. Die frühen Figuren (etwa bis zum Ende der 1950er Jahre ) tragen noch den Namen des Eigentümers auf der Rückseite: Kurt Süß, manchmal auch “Kurt Süss” geschrieben. Nach der Umwandlung in den VEB tauchte der Name des ehemaligen Inhabers auf den Rückseiten nicht mehr auf. Ein interessanter Aspekt ist jedoch dies: Kurt Süß hat in seiner frühen Phase nicht jedes seiner Märchen-Holzbilder mit einem Stempel versehen. Da die DDR auch die Lagerware von Kurt Süß übernommen hat, könnte es sein, dass dass eine der alten Figuren später einen VEB-Stempel bekommen hat, obwohl das Holzbild aus der frühen Phase stammte.

🇬🇧 Kurt Suess / Meissen and GDR / Before the Expropriation: There were two phases of the Kurt Suess wood plaques from Meissen, they were either from before or after the expropriation of his manufacture by the communist GDR regime in the last century. His early wall figures (roughly up to the end of the 1950s) still wear his name on their backs: Kurt Süß, sometimes also spelled “Kurt Süss”. Both would be written Kurt Suess in English. After the expropriation of this company by the GDR the former name of the owner did not appear on the backs anymore: The manufacture became a so-called “VEB”, a state owned enterprise. There ist an interesting aspect though: Even in the first phase Kurt Suess did not put stamps on all the backs of his wood pictures. When the GDR also took hold of his old stock, they might have put their “VEB” stamps on the back of figures that had been produced before the expropriation of the Kurt Suess company. (12/4)
