ABENDRITUAL MÄRCHENBUCH: Um die Jahrhundertmitte herum war es oft ein typisches Ritual, dass die Mutter abends aus einem Märchenbuch vorlas. Hält man “sein” Märchenbuch nach vielen Jahrzehnten wieder einmal in der Hand, sind häufig die Kindheits-Gefühle mit einem Schlag wieder präsent. Oft wird das durch die Zeichnungen ausgelöst, aber auch durch die Form, die Dicke, die gesamte Haptik des alten Buches. Meins hatte einen roten Stoffrand und eine Kutsche auf dem Einband. 🇬🇧 EVENING RITUAL FAIRY TALES: In mid-century Germany many mothers used to read to their children, most often from the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales. Those were the most common bedtime stories, but there were also fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, Wilhelm Hauff and Ludwig Bechstein. My book was a collection of fairy tales by all of them, but most often my mother read and reread the Brothers Grimm’s stories. If you hold “your” copy after many decades, it might rekindle the old feelings and memories. That’s very often due to the special illustrations but also the haptics of the book.
