INFO Sammlungen / Kolonialwaren-Sammlung: Ich kenne eine Sammlung von sehr frühen, noch komplett handbemalten WEHA-Märchen-Holzbildern und einigen anderen Wandfiguren, die aus einem damaligen Kolonialwaren-Laden stammt. Jemand erinnerte sich und hat mir freundlicherweise darüber geschrieben: “Das Geschäft war in der Hauptstraße von Sundhausen bei Gotha (Thüringen). Dort wurde alles verkauft von Kaffee bis Tabak bis Stoffe, alles was man so für den Alltag brauchte. Und auch Holzspielzeug.” Was für mich immer noch rätselhaft ist: Die Sammlung soll aus den 1930er Jahren stammen, aber laut der ehemaligen WEHA-Website begann die Produktion der Märchen-Holzbilder erst 1946. Meine Vermutung: Fritz Haupt, der Gründer von WEHA, hatte vorher schon einige dieser Figuren hergestellt, aber erst nach dem 2. Weltkrieg begann die Produktion mit den hohen Auflagen.

🇬🇧 Collections / Colonial Goods Store Collection: I’ve known a collection of very early, still all hand-painted WEHA wood plaques and some other German Wall Figures that came from a colonial goods store. Someone remembered and kindly wrote to me about it: “The store was located in the main street of Sundhausen near Gotha (German State of Thuringia). They sold everything from coffee to tabac to clothing fabrics, everything you needed for everyday life. And wood toys, too.” One thing still poses questions for me though: I was told the collection comes from the 1930s, but according to the now defunct WEHA website the production of German Wall Figures by WEHA didn’t start until 1946. My guess is this: Fritz Haupt, the founder of WEHA had already produced fairy tale wood plaques before 1946, but only after the 2nd World War did the production with high numbers start. (11/4)
