PROVENIENZ KOLONIALWAREN-GESCHÄFT: Diese Figur stammt aus einem historischen Kolonialwaren-Geschäft: „Das Geschäft war in der Hauptstraße von Sundhausen bei Gotha (Thüringen). Dort wurde alles verkauft von Kaffee bis Tabak bis Stoffe, alles was man so für den Alltag brauchte. Und auch Holzspielzeug. Im 2. Weltkrieg wurde Gotha stark bombardiert wegen des Flugzeugbaus.”
🇬🇧 PROVENANCE COLONIAL GOODS SHOP: This figure was once sold in a colonial goods store. Someone remembered and kindly wrote to me about it: “The store was located in the main street of Sundhausen near Gotha (German State of Thuringia). They sold everything from coffee to tabac to clothing fabrics; everything you needed for everyday life. And wood toys, too. In the 2nd World War Gotha had a lot of aerial bombing because of their aircraft construction factory.” (2/24)
ÜBER MÄRCHEN-HOLZBILDER: Die Ära der Märchen-Holzbilder dauerte etwa von den 1930er bis 1970er Jahren. Vor allem in Deutschland wurden sehr viele davon hergestellt, aber auch im Ausland, allen voran die Niederlande. Die großen Namen der Hersteller (Kunstgewerbe-Manufakturen) hießen Hellerkunst, Mertens-Kunst, Original Bergischer Engel, Grossmann Reit im Winkl und Ravi-Kunst, aber es gab weit über 100 weitere Hersteller. Und es gab natürlich die Laubsägearbeiten, die zu Hause in Hobbyarbeit herstellt worden sind.
🇬🇧 ABOUT GERMAN WALL FIGURES: The era of Fairy Tale Wood Plaques / Pictures lasted roughly from the 1930s to the 1970s. The German producers sold many of them, by art craft manufacturers like Hellerkunst, Mertens-Kunst, Original Bergischer Engel, Grossmann Reit im Winkl and Ravi-Kunst, but there were hundreds of other producers, too. Those sold their Germany Wall Figures worldwide. But there were also some foreign manufactures, mainly in the Netherlands, in the region of Holland.
