BLICKRICHTUNG: Ich wurde einmal gefragt, ob die meisten Märchenholzbilder aus dem letzten Jahrhundert eher nach rechts oder eher nach links schauen. Bei Scrollen durch meine umfangreiche Holzbilder-Fotobücherei (rund 20 000 Fotos) kam ich zu folgendem Ergebnis: Beide Blickrichtungen sind etwa gleich häufig vertreten. Was mir beim Scrollen auch auffiel: Die allermeisten Kinderwandfiguren wurden im Profil gezeichnet. Es gibt verhältnismäßig wenige Figuren, die einen mit beiden Augen anschauen. Umgekehrt ist es bei den Hampelmännern, welche die meisten Hersteller von Märchenholzbildern auch produziert haben: Da sind in der Regel beide Augen sichtbar und die Profilansicht ist eher die Ausnahme.

🇬🇧 Facing right or left? I was once asked whether the Germanwallfigures from the last century were looking rather to the right or the left side. While scrolling through my extensive photo library of wood plaques (around 20 000 photos), I came to the following conclusion: Both gaze directions are represented about equally. What also struck me while scrolling: The vast majority of children’s wall figures are drawn in profile. There are relatively few figures that look at you with both eyes. The opposite is true for the jumping jacks, which most manufacturers of wood figures also produced: As a rule, both eyes are visible, and the profile view is rather the exception. (4/5)
