1940s Ilse Schneider: Snow White and Rose Red with Evil Dwarf

Hand-painted on 2,5mm plywood. With the mean dwarf, who never thanks the lovely girl for their help but keeps complaining and calling them names. This German wooden wall figure lived along with a second one in the USA for roughly 60 years before I bought them back to Germany. Kathy from the USA writes: „I believe these came from a store selling religious items in Duluth MN, where I was raised. It is on the tip of Lake Superior. I think my dad may have given them to me. We were raised Catholic and I always thought of the mother figure as being Virgin Mary. I thought of the little ones as being part of a fairy tale.“
